We partner with well-known clients, like regulatory bodies including the Central Bank of Cyprus, the Credit Institutions Regulation Authority, as well as the Deposit Protection and Resolution Scheme. We have handled notable cases, such as acting as legal counsel to the Special Administrator of FBME Bank Ltd (Cyprus Branch), and providing counsel to the Cyprus Depositors Protection Scheme. These matters involve challenging litigation stemming from Cyprus’ banking insolvency and resolution legislation. We have been significantly involved in legal actions relating to the enforcement of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD), the rights of depositors, and cross-border insolvency recognition. Currently, we are handling over 25 cases before Cyprus' courts, while also overseeing 100+ cases pertaining to the resolution of Popular Bank (Laiki Bank), following the 2013 Eurogroup decisions during the Cyprus “bail-in”. Our expertise in banking insolvency law is widely recognized, and we often consult with the central regulatory authorities on issues pertaining to legal regulations. We have established significant legal precedents, including handling one of just two Norwich Pharmacal cases before the Supreme Court, and managing a landmark liquidation process against Orfanides Plc, one of Cyprus' largest supermarket chains.
